What Is Leather Patina?
Most things we own get older and lose their value. Good leather is different.
A quality full-grain leather goods often look better with age. With daily use, the leather develops a deeper colour, softer feel, and unique character. This natural ageing process is called patina. Every piece develops differently, making your leather item truly your own.
The marks, changes, and character are all part of the journey.
Why Responsible Leather Sourcing Matters?
Most of us never think about what happens in a tannery. But every leather product begins there. Tanning transforms raw hides into strong, durable leather. But it can also have a significant environmental impact when it isn’t managed responsibly. It's also one of the most chemically intensive manufacturing processes on the planet. That’s why where our leather comes from matters to us. At Atelier 127, we choose full-grain and top-grain leather with a focus on quality, durability, and responsible sourcing. We believe in making products that are built to last—not for a season, but for many years.
Buy once. Buy well. Keep it for years.
Why only Italian Leather?
Hides sourced from European cattle and bovines are particularly known for their consistency and superior raw material.
The leather is usually tanned using the most traditional centuries-old vegetable-tanning methods in Tuscany, following centuries-old artisan processes producing the best quality leathers.
What Is Vegetable-Tanned Leather?
Vegetable-tanned leather is made using natural tannins from plants. It’s a traditional process that takes time and patience, but the result is strong, beautiful leather with plenty of natural character. What we love most is the way it changes with use. Over time, the leather becomes softer, develops a deeper colour, and builds a unique patina that tells the story of its owner.
It’s not meant to look perfect forever — it’s meant to age beautifully and last for years.
